Fellow CANPAD members, family members and distinguished guests, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Calgary otherwise known as the “Cowtown” because of its rich western culture and Calgary stampede ceremonies to our 17th consecutive annual CME and Family events.
The theme of our event this year is Physician Health and Contemporary Issues in Medical Practice and our wonderful Local Organizing Committee as well as the Continuing Medical Education Committee ably led by Dr. Amara Anozie and Dr. Okezie Nweze have tirelessly worked to package an enabling interaction through the whole civic weekend for us all. Our activities this weekend include innovative ones like the visit to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, Sikome Lake visit for a “taste of Nigeria”, our own “mini soccer world cup” and more. I will be watching to see how our physical fitness matches our mental ones.
Our new High Commissioner, HE Adeyinka Asekun is most welcome in our midst as we celebrate the academic and professional accomplishments of our members in the past year. I cannot fail to mention our senior colleagues who have blazed trails ahead of us including Dr. Sunmolu Beckley who had the hospital and a street in his community named after him in 2017 following many years of dedicated service and professional excellence.
Our members have done very well this past year in the Royal College and College of Family Physician Examinations. I salute you all as well as those who have climbed the professional ladder in administrative positions or branched into ownership practices. We are also recognizing starting from this year, active membership of our beloved association beyond the decade mark. We appreciate you all.
We in the Executive Committee are proud of all our members and do heartily welcome you all once again to Calgary.
Welcome one and all.
